Sunday Observations - Week 14

In My Fason!
When monitoring the Vikings offensive woes early in the week, most of the focus was on the quarterback situation. Will it be Johnson or Jackson. We all waited with baited breath at this decision, so we could bench/release both. The other issue out of Winter Park this week was whether or not Chester Taylor would play. We ALL assumed that if the Chetster was unable to go, his replacement would be Ciatrick Fason, who ripped up and gashed the vaunted Bears defense, when Taylor got injured last week. WOW! Did Brad Childress make his best play to leap into level of coaches that fantasy players love to hate. This group of course includes, Mike Shannahan, and the recently inducted Gary Kubiak. The Dark Sith Lord of Fantasy Football, and his evil apprentice. Brad Johnson ended up starting, and played good enough to not warrant fantasy consideration next week. The real hum-dinger, was when Artrose Pinner came in and lit up the fantasy world. He had 125 yards and THREE touchdowns. All accross the country I was hearing people who started Fason scream "ARTROSE WHO!!??!!" every time Pinner marched across the goal line against his former squad. I know I was one of those players that was celebrating the fact that Taylor was down, because I had grabbed Fason early in the week and was licking my chops at the prospects of him ripping up the lions. I even benched Tiki Barber in one league for Fason. So with that, IN MY FASON!

The Colts are EXPOSED! Children, avert your eyes.
Of all the things I didn't expect to see this weekend, the Jacksonville rushing attack against the Colts was definitely one of them. I knew that Taylor and Jones-Drew would be decent plays against a weak Colts rushing defense, but 297 yards between those two was completely unexpected. It was a great game plan by Jacksonville. They basically eliminated the passing game. Jacksonville almost seemed to go out of their way to prove that the Colts have less coverage up the middle than Brittany Spears when she goes out clubbing. After the game the Jaguars players gave a lot of the credit to Mike Tice, their embattled assistant head-coach, who got in trouble for scalping Super-Bowl Tickets. If their running game can play like this every week until the end of the season, ole Ticey might need to keep those Super Bowl tickets for his family this year.

Tony Who?
"In the last four games, Tony Romo has six touchdown passes and five interceptions. All but one of those touchdowns (and none of the picks) came on Thanksgiving. Since his next game is on NFL Network, which nobody will see, his mythical status will likely continue even if he lays an egg for the fourth time in five weeks."

One of the more disgusting developments this year was the love-fest heaped upon one Tony Romo. I'm proud to say I was one of the few that never bought into the long term success of this flash in the pan Dallas QB. First off, if he had any real talent, he wouldn't have to be a 4th year rookie. Secondly, It's the way the NFL works when it comes to new quarterbacks in the league. There have been at least 5 examples of 'new' quarterbacks that have started hotter than a pistol, and then after 5 games have flamed out and have looked very ordinary, if not awful. This list includes phenoms like Rex Grossman, Damon Huard, Bruce Gradkowski, Matt Leinart, and to a lesser extent Seneca Wallace. All these QBs had about 4-5 games where they looked GREAT, and then once teams got some film on them to figure the QBs out they look ordinary. The same thing is happening to Romo. He came in against the Giants at halftime, and looked abysmal. Then he gets another week of work with the first team, plays a terrible team, and then looks like the next big thing. Repeat for 3 weeks, and suddenly he's a Top5 Fantasy QB into next year. Now after Thanksgiving he plays the Giants again, gets beat up, plays awful. Makes one throw at the end of the game to Witten to save the game, and everyone forgets the two ints. Now he laid an egg against the Saints, and people still think he's good. I don't get it. We'll see how good people think he is when Jeff Garcia leads the Eagles to the NFC East division title.

Sweet Brees Blowin'
Five TDs last week against the supposedly good Dallas Defense? Brees has thrown for 300+ yards for more than any other QB in the league this year. He's making Peyton Manning look like Eli. Drew wasn't good enough to stay in San Diego. Now he's in New Orleans, as the only real competition to his former running back for the league MVP. When you factor in the complete turn around that team has done this year, I'm more inclined to give the MVP to Brees than LT. Brees has been a great fantasy QB all year, and looks to be a great fantasy QB for years to come with all those great young receivers he has in Colston, Henderson, and even Terrance Copper. Reggie Bush will be a star for Brees in the future (what was Houston THINKING!). All that's left for New Orleans to do is rebuild their line, and they will be tough for the next few years.

I'm already on record as saying this years Super Bowl will be New Orleans v. San Diego. Get your tickets now. Ticey? Got some for sale?

Write that Record in Pencil
This last weekend Ladanian Tomlinson broke the venerable one year old 'Touchdowns in a Season' record, set by Shaun Alexander. Alexander broke the record set one or two years before by Priest Holmes.

How long until LT's record is broken, and by who? Well considering the season isn't over yet, and there are three games left for him to add to his total, that may skew the chances of breaking the record. If LT goes even nuttier and bumps his total to 40TDs that could limit the chances of breaking the record three years in a row. It will also virtually guarantee that every fantasy team with Tomlinson on it will win its Championship. Forget TJ Houshmandzadeh, LT is the Championship.

My early guess at 2007, and who has the best shot at breaking the TD record? This all depends on if Tiki Barber follows through with his threat on retirement, but my early money is on Brandon Jacobs. He will have the size and power to get all the goal line carries. He will also have the speed and ability to bust some long runs as well. We can only hope that Tom Coughlin gets fired, and the Giants get a coach that focuses on the run as well.

Week 14 Sunday/Monday Start & Sit

Sunday's Games:
Atl @ TB
Start Em Atl
M. Vick, QB
W. Dunn, WR
A. Crumpler, TE

Sit Em Atl
J. Norwood, RB
All ATL WRs

Mike Vick, the embattled Atlanta Quarterback, is still an efficent fantasy quarterback. He can do things that other fantasy quarterbacks can't do. He still doesn't throw touchdowns, but he can run for more yards than any other QB in the league. He scores fantasy points. That's all players care about. Who cares that he can't win games. The other thing he has going for him, is the TB offense is fairly brutal, so that should keep Vick and company on the field fairly often. Dunn makes a sneaky play, as the Tampa defense can be beaten down and run against. Alge Crumpler is a must start in TE mandatory leagues. Norwood could be a very sneaky start if you need a pinch hitter. He gets a few carries a game, and tends to make each one count. He likes to rip long bombs off for TDs. Other than the home run though, he is more likely to strike out, rather than be a safe start. The Atlanta WRs are worthless. Most of Vick's bad passing numbers come from the set of WRs that can't catch a simple pass. Don't count on these guys this week.

Start Em TB
J. Galloway, WR

Sit Em TB
B. Gradkowski, QB
C. Williams, RB
M. Clayton, WR - IR Out for year
I. Hilliard, WR
A. Smith, TE

Joey Galloway is the only guy you can take a shot on this week. He should catch a few lame ducks from Gradkowski to put up a few points for owners against a soft Atlanta secondary. Fantasy owners are always wanting to use their first round pick of Carnell Williams. He could put up good numbers today, however, with the weak passing game in Tampa, I simply don't trust him. Atlanta can load up the front and stuff Williams. Gradkowski isn't very good, and shouldn't be on a roster. Clayton was placed on injured reserve this week, and can be dropped now, even on keeper leagues. He hasn't shown that he is worthy of roster spot going into next year. The other players aren't worthy of playing this week.

Bal @ KC
Start Em Bal
S. McNair, QB
D. Mason, WR
T. Heap, TE
J. Lewis, RB

Sit Em Bal
M. Clayton, WR
M. Anderson, RB

Last week the lowly Cleveland Browns proved that you can pass on the KC Chiefs. I would expect that to be part of the Ravens' game plan this week. Look for McNair, and his favorite toys of Todd Heap, and Derrick Mason to post good numbers this week. Jamal Lewis will get his as they mix in the run. Mark Clayton has been getting mixed in as of late, however he is still too streaky to trust in this critical week of the fantasy season.

Start Em KC
L. Johnson, RB
T. Gonzalez, TE -Prob, Shoulder
T. Green, QB

Sit Em KC
M. Bennett, RB
E. Kennison, WR
S. Parker, WR

Larry Johnson is a legitamate fantasy beast. I have gone on record saying I would start him against the '85 Bears. So of course I would start him against the Ravens at home this week. Last week Johnson may have let a few people down, without scoring a touchdown. Green went off throwing four touchdowns, and none of them to LJ. Speaking of Green's game last week, is that a trend or a mirage? I believe that is an absolute flukey mirage. He hasn't had a game like that since 2004. The KC offense is run first, run second, and run third. Green threw 4 TDs, and incase you didn't notice, they lost. Green makes a good play this week, against a Ravens Defense that can be thrown against, but don't expect those numbers again. Gonzo is always a great play, injured shoulder or not. Bennett has been sneaking in the game more often, stealing a series here, a carry there from Johnson, but not enough yet, to warrant fantasy consideration. Kennison and Parker don't make good plays yet against the Ravens because Gonzo is getting healthy. Also, I just don't flat trust Kennison. If you must play a KC WR, I've been on the Parker bandwagon for 2 weeks, so why don't we make it 3. He is always a very sneaky play.

Ind @ Jax
Start Em Ind
P. Manning, QB
M. Harrison, WR
R. Wayne, WR

Sit Em Ind
J. Addai, RB
D. Rhodes, RB
B. Utecht, TE
D. Clark, TE

This could be a very tough game for Indy. Jacksonville plays very good defense at home. I don't suggest playing your Indy running backs this week, as the Jax, front line is one of the best in football, especially at home. The passing game is the way to go. Manning is a must start every week. Harrison went off last week, as I could have predicted after running him down in an article last week (Marvin, I love you!). Reggie Wayne is in line for the big game this week, as Peyton tends to try and flip flop the WRs with the 'big game' stats. Although, with that stinky 1 catch for 9 yards performance 2 weeks ago, Marv may get 2 in a row. The only gaurantee is you can't bench either of them, because unless you can read tea leaves, you will just never know. You can't start the TEs in this game, because they are either hurt, or they split too much of each other's time, and they are more unreliable than the 'Harrison/Wayne' connection.

Start Em Jax
F. Taylor, RB
M. Jones-Drew, RB

Sit Em Jax
D. Garrad, QB
E. Wilford, WR
M. Jones, WR
R. Williams, WR
G. Wrightster, TE
M. Lewis, TE

If Jacksonville is to win this game, they are going to have to do it on the ground. Indianapolis is one of the worst running defenses in the league. That makes both running backs, Fraud Taylor, and Maurice Jones-Drew, great plays this week. Indy has a great pass defense, with a blitzkrieg pass rush and great corners. Garrad isn't great either, so that combination pretty much negates the entire Jacksonville passing game. The only way you start any of these guys is if you have a gun to your head. If then, you start Wilford. He is Garrad's favorite 'go near' guy.

Min @ Det
Start Em Min
C. Fason, RB
M. Moore, RB

Sit Em Min
B. Johnson, QB
M. Johnson, WR
T. Taylor, WR
T. Williamson, WR
J. Wiggins, TE
C. Taylor, RB - OUT, Ribs

If you were unfortunate enough to suffer through watching the Bears/Vikings game last week, you learned exactly WHY you don't start the Vikings passing game. IT STINKS!!! Even against the Lions this week, you can't start any facet of the Vikings passing attack. Starting with the Quarterback. First off, we don't know who it is. Brad Johnson is rumored to start, however, all of Viking Nation is clamoring for the rookie, Tarvaris Jackson to start. The Receivers are all mediocre at best (although, I'll take them over Atlanta's crew). Jermaine Wiggins has all but vanished. On to the fun part of the Vikings offense. This week, even the running game is in flux. Chester Taylor is doubtful with a rib injury. As I write this, and listen to the Vikings pregame show, Taylor is trying to work out, and start. Should he be unable to go, Ciatrick Fason would get the start, and make an excellent play this week. Mewelde Moore, would also an expanded roll, and could make a play if you are tight at RB. Even if Taylor starts, Fason might make a good play, because it could be only one good shot until Taylor is knocked out of the game.

Start Em Det
R. Williams, WR
M. Furrey, WR

Sit Em Det
J. Kitna, QB
K. Jones, RB
M. Williams, WR

The Detroit Lions... the enigma. This set of picks is based purely on the strength and the pride of the Vikings Defense. The Vikings have the #1 rushing defense in the league and it's not even close. The last time these two met Kevin Jones got 8 yards. Bench him. Bench him and bury him. The flip side to that is that Vikings defense isn't so stout against the pass. This makes Roy Williams and Mike Furrey good plays this week. Matt Leinart made passes to his WRs to carve up this defense, so Kitna and his WRs could be able to. Kitna makes an interesting thought this week. If you are pressed at QB you can start him. He's the only QB in the league this year to throw for 200 yards in each game this year. He'll probably get a TD in the game. The question is, how many picks will he throw? How much of the pass defense turn around last week was weather/Grossman related for the Vikings? If you have a better option at QB, start him. If you are stuck, go ahead and start Kitna with shaky confidence.

NE @ Mia
Start Em NE
T. Brady, QB
R. Caldwell, WR
B. Watson, TE
C. Dillion, RB

Sit Em NE
L. Maroney, RB - Out, Back-Ribs
D. Gabriel, WR
D. Graham, TE
T. Brown, WR

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots should tear up the Dolphins on the road today. Brady makes an excellent play, however, much of his supporting cast does not. Ben Watson and Reche Caldwell are the best plays today, as far as pass catchers go. They are, by far, Brady's favorite receivers. Laurence Maroney is out for the game today. He didn't even make the trip to Miami. Corey Dillion expects to see a slight uptick in his carries, and all the goal line carries. He makes a good play against Miami. The rest of the team doesn't carry any consideration in fantasy leagues.

Start Em Mia
None.

Sit Em Mia
J. Harrington, QB
M. Booker, WR
C. Chambers, WR
S. Morris, RB
W. Welker, WR
R. McMichael, TE

This week I would bench all of my Dolphins. The New England Defense is on a roll as of late, and they could completly shut down the Dolphins this week. There are always questions about the playcalling in Miami, and this has gone into the analysis. If you are stuck for a WR, Marty Booker has been the hottest receiver as of late, and makes the safest play. Last week the Lions scared the Patriots, but Joey Heatherton is no Jon Kitna. The Patriots won't be embarrassed twice. Not against a division opponant, and definately not against a team like Miami. Look for the Patriots to win this one running away.

NYG @ Car
Start Em NYG
J. Shockey, TE
P. Burress, WR
T. Barber, RB

Sit Em NYG
E. Manning, QB
B. Jacobs, RB
T. Carter, WR

The Giants are falling apart at the seams. Everyone is hating on everyone else. The players hate the coach. The quarterback hates the receivers, the Tight End hates everyone. That said, Shockey still makes a decent play, as they still want to win. Burress makes a decent play, as he has personal pride. Tiki Barber makes a play because he gets a decent amount of carries. Other than that I don't trust the Giants about as far as I can throw them. Little Manning isn't consistant enough on the road to warrant consideration. Brandon Jacobs is still too hit and miss, and against the Panther's defense, is more likely to miss. Tim Carter, or the other WR doesn't get enough attention from an inaccurate QB to deserve a fantasy roster spot.

Start Em Car
S. Smith, WR
D. Williams, RB

Sit Em Car
J. Delhomme, QB -Out Thumb
C. Weinke, QB - Questionable, Talent
D. Foster, RB - Probable, Elbow
K. Johnson, WR - Questionable, Catching passes from Weinke
K. Magnum, TE

The craziest team to pick this year has been Carolina. Steve Smith is the only safe start, because he has freaky talent. DeAngelo Williams makes a good start because he has the talent to carve up the Giants defense, and to catch some outlet passes from Weinke as he panics. That said, you bench everyone else for the reasons listed above. Magnum doesn't get enough looks to start even in TE manditory leagues. Weinke hasn't started a game since 2001, and against a defense that made the next chosen one, Tony Romo, look mediocre to bad last week, really doesn't have much of a chance. This is going to be an ugly game. Ugly like the Carolina/St. Louis game a few weeks back.

Oak @ Cin
Start Em Oak
(Stop me if you've heard this one)

NONE!!

Sit Em Oak
All

Ick. oops... I think i threw up a little...

Start Em Cin
R. Johnson, RB
C. Johnson, WR
C. Henry, WR

Sit Em Cin
C. Palmer, QB
TJ Houshmandzadeh,
WR -Probable Back

The safest start for Cincy this week is Rudi Johnson. Oakland's defense is beatable on the ground. C. Johnson is about the safest WR in this game. Oakland's pass defense is really strong. Which is why I'm not high on Carson Palmer this week. TJ Whosyourmama is dinged up this week, which makes him a tough start. Chris Henry was NOT the Bengal arrested this week, which is a miracle in and of itself, and with the injury to TJ he makes the safer play of the two, but against the Oakland defense, I'd leave them both on the bench this week.

Phi @ Wash
Start Em Phi
B. Westbrook, RB
J. Garcia, QB
D. Stallworth, WR
LJ Smith, TE

Sit Em Phi
R. Brown, WR
H. Baskett, WR

The Philly offense begins with 'The Rabbit' Brian Westbrook. Look for him to be a focal point of the offense. Jeff Garcia has emerged as a legitimate backup to Donovan McNabb. It was questionable if he would be able to pull it off. Last week, against the Panthers he proved that he would be able to post good fantasy numbers, with 300+ yards, and 3 TDs. He should be able to post good numbers against a soft, but surging Washington defense in a game that Philly absolutely needs if they wish to conitnue their playoff chances. Donte Stallworth makes a good play as he is emerging as a favorite target of Garcia. LJ Smith didn't catch a pass last week vs. the Panthers, however he still makes a good play in TE manditory leagues. Reggie Brown and Hank Baskett aren't worthy of fantasy consideration this week. They still need one more game to prove that they are catching passes from Garcia.

Start Em Was
L. Betts, RB
C. Cooley, TE
S. Moss, WR

Sit Em Was
J. Campbell, QB
A. Randel El, WR
B. Lloyd, WR

The Redskins have enjoyed some offensive success since their change to quarterback Jason Campbell. Ladell Betts has filled in admirably since Clinton Portis was placed on IR. He also signed a 5 year contract extension this week, so he should be eager to prove that he was worthy of the money. Santana Moss is of that 'Steve Smith' mold. Small, quick, and talented. He can make something out of nothing. Chris Cooley is a great TE play this week, as he has emerged as one of Campbell's favorite safety valve receivers. He is also big and burly enough to blow through a tackle or two. Campbell himself doesn't warrant consideration in a run first offense. He has yet to put up the huge numbers that fantasy owners covet when looking for in a starting QB. The backup WRs aren't worthy of roster spots in most leagues.

Ten@ Hou
Start Em Ten
T. Henry, RB
V. Young, QB
B. Scaife, TE
D. Bennett, WR

Sit Em Ten
C. Brown, RB
L. White, RB
B. Wade, WR
B. Jones, WR

Tennesee vs. Houston. About as random as you can get. If you ever wanted to safely start Vince Young, now is the time. Travis Henry SHOULD be safe, but he has a nice track record of disappearing against soft defenses. Scaife makes a good play in TE manditory leagues, and is healthy this week. Bennett is Young's favorite WR, and should get a TD and a few yards. The rest of the bits probably aren't on your roster, and therefore don't warrant consideration.

Start Em Hou
A. Johnson, WR
O. Daniels, TE

Sit Em Hou
D. Carr, QB
W. Lundy, RB
R. Dayne, RB
S. Gado, RB
E. Moulds, WR

Andre Johnson is (shudders) a must start this week against a soft Tennesee defense. However, this is the LAST week I give him that consideration (Eikey's Used Car Lot). Owen Daniels also fits that consideration in TE manditory leagues. You can't start the running backs this week if only because the coach, Gary Kubiak has been shaken out of the Sith Lord's coaching tree. The 3 RBs in Houston will be continually shaken up and mixed in, and none of them will get a bulk of the carries to give fantasy owners a decent chance to win. Sit them all, unless you have to start Lundy. He's probably the #1 in Houston. Carr is Terrible. Don't start him. Mould's is a nice decoy for Johnson.

GB @ SF
Start Em GB
B. Favre, QB
D. Driver, WR
G. Jennings, WR
A. Green, RB

Sit Em GB
N. Herron, RB
D. Martin, TE

This game should be a shoot out. Look for Favre to light up the 49er defense. Ahman Green should get his on the ground. Driver and Jennings make decent plays.

Start Em SF
F. Gore, RB
A. Bryant, WR

Sit Em SF
Everyone Else

Frank Gore is the only true viable option on this team. Green Bay does have a decent front 7, but that said, Gore is the focal point of the offense. Much like the Minnesota Vikings. The way to beat the Packers is in the air, but I don't think Smith and his receivers are consistant enough to warrant any consideration in this game. If you are in dire need for a WR play, Antonio Bryant makes a viable opiton against a soft Packer pass defense. Vernon Davis at TE hasn't done enough to warrant a starting spot yet.

Sea @ Ari
Start Em Sea
S. Alexander, RB
D. Jackson, WR
D. Branch, WR
M. Hasselback, QB

Start your Seahawks. Arizona is brutal. They play better at home, but that won't be enough to stop the juggernaut that can be a healthy Seatle offense. I wouldn't go too deep in the WRs though. Engram Burleson and Hackett probably aren't on rosters, and shouldn't be picked up for this game. Jerramy Stevens is too streaky to be relied on, but if you need him, go for it.

Start Em Ari
A. Boldin, WR
L. Fitzgerald, WR
M. Leinart, QB

Sit Em Ari
E. James, RB
M. Shipp, RB
L. Pope, TE

The big three in Arizona are good plays. Seattle can be thrown on. The Edge had his fantasy value killed last week when Marcell Shipp sniped three TDs from him on the goal line last week. don't start the running backs against the Seahawks this week.

Buf @ NYJ
Start Em Buf
W. McGahee, RB
L. Evans, WR
JP Losman, QB

Sit Em Buf
R. Parrish, WR
A. Thomas, RB

Willis McGahee is the focus of the Bills offense. JP Losman and Lee Evans are about as Streaky as you can get in fantasy football. I'm going way out on a limb here, and guessing that this is a game where they go off, against a softer Jets defense. They have proven they can do it in the past, I'm thinking it is about time they do it again.

Start Em NYJ
C. Pennington, QB
L. Coles, WR
J. Cotcherty, WR
C. Baker, TE
C. Houston, RB
L. Washington, RB

Sit Em NYJ
K. Barlow, RB

Start all your passing game Jets this week. They are on fire, and are going up against a softer Bills defense, at home. This game should be a barn burner, so get out your marshmallows. The running game is a mystery, almost as bad as the Denver and Houston games. Cedric Houston is the Starter. Leon Washington should be the backup, and Kevan Barlow should be the odd man out. However I gaurantee you that that will change based on your need to win your game. Either if you have them on your team, or if you are playing against them. I would do my best to avoid the situation altogether.

Commonwealth of the Land League update, for week 14

Well what an exciting week that was, with 3 games, the entire playoff picture is settled, making week 14 very very boring.

Just Giver: Won Week 13 - With a Wild Iguana loss, and dominating in the Division Wins tie breaker has won the division, making their annual week 14 battle, well, pointless.

Wild Iguanas: Lost Week 13 - Sat back all day, in great position, even with Trent throwing 4 tds ignoring Larry Johnson. Feeling safe with an easy 10 from Andre Johnson, watched his division championship dreams evaporate when Johnson caught one ball for 9 yards. The Iguanas should have the Wild Card locked up.

Team in a Box: Lost Week 13- Had the world by the balls. He could have really screwed up the whole play off picture. The Furious Fighting Figs weren't going to have any of that. Led by Ladell Betts and Santana Moss, he dashed the Box's playoff dreams by handing the loss that TIAB couldn't have to make the post season. With Just Giver winning, and TIAB losing to the Iguanas in week 11, has eliminated himself from playoff contention.

Suddenly the most exciting races in the league are for the draft picks for next year. Grid Iron leads the race for the number one pick in the draft with 3 wins, Filthy Whores is in second with 4 wins. Then there is a hodge-podge of teams bunched up 5 wins. These include The Stunners, Motown Madness, Mad Blue Bombers, and the fallen from grace, SoCal Bears. The Furious Fighting Figs can add to the mess with a loss, as they sit at 6 wins on the year. Team in a Box is sitting comfortably in the 8th drafting position.

After this week the draft order for the top 8 will be set. The last 4 will be set upon completion of the Championship Tournament.

Week 14 Start Em / Sit Em

Week 14. Make or Break week for Fantasy Football. Many of you are in the playoffs. Many are out, and some, like me in some leagues, need a win this week to get in. This week is very important to many people this week. So without further adieu, lets get on with the predictions.

Thursday's Game:
Cle @ Pit
Start 'Em Cle
K. Winslow, TE
B. Edwards, WR

Sit 'Em Cle
C. Frye, QB - Questionable/Out Wrist
Backup QB Guy, QB - Questionable, Talent
R. Droughns, RB
J. Wright, RB
D. Northcutt, WR

On Thursday Night the Browns roll into Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. When they get there they'll be playing without starting quarterback Charlie Frye. He injured his wrist last week vs. the Chiefs. He hasn't practiced all week, and with the short week, he probably won't play. Frye's backup, Derek Andersen would take the helm of the Brown's offense. Derek himself is not a useful start in fantasy leagues, but after his comeback win against the Chiefs, some of his supporting cast may be useful. The Steelers have one of the better rush defenses in the league so that makes the running backs unusable. Also, Droughns and Wright will continue to split time, negating each others value. One place that could be harvested for fantasy value, are the Cleveland Wide Receivers and Tight Ends. Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow make excellent plays this week against a soft Pittsburgh pass defense. If there is a way to beat the Steeler's it is through the air. The benefit the Browns have is that they have a new Quarterback getting his second action of the year. Damon Huard and Tony Romo come to mind as successful quarterbacks that took off with a week of practice. The Steelers haven't been giving up many points to quarterbacks, but they have been giving up plenty of points to wide outs and tight ends all year. It doesn't help Pittsburgh's cause, with Troy Palomalu out for the game.

Start 'Em Pit
W. Parker, RB
S. Holmes, WR
H. Miller, TE

Sit 'Em Pit
B. Roethlesberger, QB
H. Ward, WR -Out Knee
N. Washington, WR

Willie Parker had been trying to establish himself as a stud running back in fantasy football. Owners began to pick up on one little flaw in his game. He was only productive at home. That streak came to an end last week versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Parker put up poor numbers at home against a relatively strong rush defense. This week Parker shouldn't have the problem with the strong defense. Cleveland is more known for its pass defense than it's run defense. Larry Johnson ran effectively last week against the Browns. He didn't score a TD, but that was more because Trent Green was tossing TDs from all over the field. LJ scores most of his TDs inside the 10 yard line. Look for Parker to put up good numbers this week. As for the Steelers passing game, stay far away from it. Hines Ward is out for the game, after undergoing knee surgery last week. His replacements aren't too special. Santonio Holmes may be the best option if you need a replacement for Ward. Washington may be the one that gets the most looks, but he has established that he has a problem catching the ball. Heath Miller is a must start in all tight end mandatory league, especially with Ward out as Big Ben needs a safety valve. Speaking of Big Ben, He is a quarterback you definitely want to stay away from. He has been brutal this year. He is wildly inconsistent, and throws far too many interceptions to be relied upon from a fantasy perspective. Cleveland can be passed against, but I would bet they try and refocus on the run this week.

Sunday's Games:

Eikey's Used Car Lot

It is this time of year, that fantasy players have ridden their draft picks as far as they can. Now it's time to trade some of them, and look at a few players they should have either never picked up, or look to trade in before they fail completely. Welcome to my used car lot. This is obviously inspired by the lead off Gremlin, and how his lack of drivability may have cost me a chance at the fantasy playoffs this year.

David Carr, QB Houston Texans.

We all knew that David Carr and his offensive line sucked. That isn't news, or even new. We had a three year track record to work off for this. The change this year was that Andre Johnson was a top five receiver in the league for most of the year. That meant that Carr was at least serviceable enough to get Johnson a ball or two. In most games he was getting him eight or nine. Johnson was an every week start based on these events. Then Andre drove his 'David' Carr into Oakland. David broke down faster than a Pinto when you need to get your wife to the emergency room to deliver your kid. Johnson turned in a lovely one catch, nine yard performance. I don't know about your league, but in my league that counted for a brutal zero points. This stung even more needing a meager 10 points out of him to get into the playoffs. Adding further injury to insult, Marty Booker and Chris Chambers were sitting on my bench already with the points needed to guarantee my place in the playoffs.

All that said, what can we expect looking forward from the Gremlin and Johnson? Can they be trusted in your fantasy playoffs? How much of last weeks performance can be attributed to Oakland's better than advertised passing defense?

I'm going to go out on a limb, and suggest that they have one patch job left. Then the whole machine will fall apart and they will have to send the old Gremlin to the junk yard for another year. In week 14, the Texans get the Titans at home. The last time these two tangled, Carr threw at Johnson 19 times, completing 9. Johnson had 78 yards, and a touchdown. If he gets close to these numbers he should help teams get into their playoffs. After that.....

The Titans might be enough to send this Carr to the scrap heap. In week 15 the Texans get to drive out to Foxboro, and meet the Patriots. The Pats defense may be enough to blow their transmission, and flatten their tires. Perhaps even pour some sugar in their gas tank. Following the Patriots, the Texans get to push their broken down Gremlin back home and wait for the Colts to come in and dismantle them in week 16. The previous meeting between the Colts and the Texans, Carr threw at Johnson six times, resulting in 4 catches for 56 yards and a touchdown. Those are hardly championship winning numbers.

In summary, even with Andre Johnson driving the "David" Carr, it's a broken down model. You might get one more week of mileage out of it, and then your best bet is to park it for the year. Perhaps you can even spend all spring and summer working on Andre Johnson, and build him up like I have been doing for the last two - three years. This year he finally paid off - for most of the season. We'll have to see what upgrades Gary Kubiak throws on this team in the off season. If he does some serious work on the front end, and if Dominick Davis comes back to help the rear end, The Texans car might be one to look at again. Even if it is a "David" model, or they roll out the new "Quinn 1.0".

Carnell "Cadillac" Williams

Carnell "Cadillac" Williams was a consensus first round pick in many drafts last fall. He was the "Rookie of the Year" in 2005, and showed all the flashes you hoped from a first round fantasy guy. Most importantly, he was a Cadillac. Or was he?

Of all the first round busts this year, (and there have been plenty). Cadillac has been right up there, front and center in many people's minds. He has performed so well this year, many people have changed his nickname from "Cadillac" to "Yugo", or "Escort" or any of the other fabulous clunkers that we have grown to know and love over the years. Paul Charcian of Fantasy Football Weekly on KFAN first used the "Yugo" term, so for now I'm going with the "Escort" name.

Escort has been brutal this season. He only has two 100 yard rushing games, and one touchdown on the year. So far his rushing total is a mere 724 yards, averaging out to 60 per game.

Some of that effort can attributed to his features. He was working with a banged up front end for much of the year. His engine Chrissy Simms was brutal early, and then broke down completely when he ruptured his spleen. The replacement parts haven't been helpful either. Bruce Gradkowski looked promising early. However, once teams got some film on him, he has looked filthy as of late. This is allowing teams to shut down the run again. When Williams does get a chance to redeem some value, Escort gets replaced with the 'Mack Truck' known as Mike Alstott at the goal line. Alstott is one of the best players in the league to snipe touchdowns. That is, when Gradkowski can sputter his offense down the field that close.

What does this mean for Escort in the off season and in 2007? When the Escort gets pulled into the garage for the year for work, what can we expect to get rebuilt? Mike Alstott is constantly pondering retirement. This move allow would help Williams' value heading into 2007. Some reports out of Tampa also have Jon Gruden leaving Tampa this year. This move would cause some chaos in the garage, and may or may not help Williams value. First we have to see if it even happens. As with any beauty, especially Cadillacs, all the value starts with the front end. If Tampa doesn't do any work on its aging offensive line, then Williams really doesn't stand much of a chance to regain the moniker 'Cadillac' into 2007.

Brian "The Rabbit" Westbrook

Not every one remembers the old Volkswagen Rabbit, ( I hear they are bringing it back). For the sake of this article I'm going to drag out the nickname of Brian Westbrook. The Rabbit. He has been one of the most productive running backs in fantasy football this year. However, he has also been one of the more fragile ones in recent history. This year he has battled nagging injuries, and in the last few years he has broken down completely. Last year when Donovan McNabb got hurt, the Old Rabbit died completely. What does this year hold for our little beast?

When McNabb went down in week 11 Westbrook picked up his second game with 20 rushing attempts. The first came the week before against the Redskins following their week 9 bye. Week 12 was his third 20 carry game in a row. There was concern at this point that the old Rabbit would break down in Week 13 against the swarming Carolina defense. Julius Peppers and his aggressive defensive friends would be keying on Westbrook and daring Jeff Garcia to beat them, which coincidentally, he did. Westbrook had 16 carries for 68 yards, and 6 catches for 56 yards, and a touchdown. It looks like he made it through that game without too much damage.

Looking ahead into the fantasy playoffs, will he be helpful? Will he stay healthy? Week 14 Westbrook rolls into Washington, which should lend to putting up good fantasy numbers for owners. Then the wheels come off this crazy thing. Assuming Westbrook manages to stay healthy, the Eagles and Westbrook then roll into the Meadowlands, and then head down to Dallas for weeks 15 and 16. Both of those teams are not known for allowing running backs to score very many points against them. The only saving grace is that the Giants may have utterly collapsed by then, and the Eagles could still be playing for a playoff spot. If this is this case, then Westbrook is still a safe start. The game in Dallas, he is a very shaky start regardless. Dallas has a very solid run defense.

Looking ahead to 2007, if The Rabbit can get to the garage in decent shape, without getting too banged up, he will be in great positition to be a top 10 running back in fantasy drafts. The reason he hasn't been up to this point is that he hasn't proven that he can stay healthy. If he plays 14-15 games this year, with his nagging knee injury all year, I'll anoint him a legit top 10 back. I was high on him into this year, and watching most of the consensus top 10 backs bust out this year, I'll put my trust in a Rabbit before I put it in a Cadillac.

Honorable Mention:
Cleo Lemon - He's just a backup in Miami, but he did get mop-up duty on Thanksgiving day. I just thought it would be nice to mention one of the unmentionables, for a change.

Weekly Mailbag.

Well two weeks into this little bit of chaos of a hobby/addiction I think I'm ready to start opening myself up to a question or two if there is anyone out there passing by that has a specific question on their rosters that I can try and help with.

I'll answer most of the questions I get, as quick as I can, until I start to get swamped. I'll even take the better ones and make an article here on my site Friday or Saturday.

The address I can be reached at is the one in my profile, eikey1729@sbcglobal.net Please, do not hesitate to ask. I love talking this stuff, and I love helping out my fellow fantasy football player even more. If you are in my leagues... I don't care. If you can use my info and beat me, so be it.

So bring on those questions! I want to see if I'm as good at this stuff as I think I am.

Start 'Em Sit 'Em Week 13

Here we go again! Week 13. Game by Game who to start, who to sit analysis of your NFL action.

Remember, there are now Thursday night games every week from now until the end of the year. I'll try to get that Thursday night game done every Wednesday, and the rest of the games done at least a day before hand.

On with the fun!

Thursday night:
Bal @ Cin

Start 'Em Balt
S. McNair, QB
J. Lewis, RB
M. Clayton, WR
T. Heap, TE

Sit 'Em Balt
D. Mason, WR
D. Wilcox, TE

Since the firing of Jim Fassel the Baltimore offense has really taken off, scoring no less than 24 points per game. Jamal Lewis has also shown a resurgence in production in this time. Which bodes well this week against the Bengals who are among the league worst in giving up fantasy points to running backs. Look for Jamal to continue his hot streak on Thursday night. The most promising aspect of this offensive turn around is that Steve McNair has been able to find a receiver other than safety valve Todd Heap. Mark Clayton has emerged in recent weeks as a legitimate threat in fantasy circles to score, week in, week out. The only downside is that with the emergence of Clayton, and the constant reliance on Heap, is that reduces the venerable one, Derrick Mason, and his role in the offense. He still show flashes and scores points, but if you have better options this week, look to use them. Daniel Wilcox is a back up tight end, that should only be used when Heap is actually out, rather than just pretending to be injured. Heap is one of the leading offenders of the 'Questionable on Wednesday, but plays'. If you have Heap and Wilcox, you have to watch the pregame deactivations for which to start. If Heap is healthy, Wilcox has little fantasy value.

Start 'Em Cincy
C. Palmer, QB
C. Johnson, WR
TJ Championship, WR

Sit 'Em Cincy
R. Johnson, RB
C. Henry, WR
R. Kelly, TE (not the rapper)

Cincinnati has been one of the more unpredictable teams this year. As of late they have been one of the more flashy offensive teams on the field. Chad Johnson has been unbelievable the last three weeks, while being shut out of the end zone last week against Cleveland. His receiver friends picked up the slack in the touchdown department, with Chris Henry scoring twice, and TJ Whosyourmama scoring once. All three of the receivers put up nice yardage against the Browns, with Palmer leading the way. This week they get a very stiff defense in the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore is very good against the run, which makes you leave Running Rudi on the bench this week. In fact, Baltimore is the best in the NFL in giving up fantasy points to running backs. They only give up an average of 8.25 points per game, and have only surrendered 2 rushing tds all year. If you are going to beat the Ravens you have to do it through the air. The Ravens have been a little more lenient through the air. They have given up 9 tds to Wide Receivers so far, through 11 games. While the odds aren't good that CJ, or TJ will score, they are too good to leave on the bench. Last week I was questioning TJ's health, but after last week's performance, he looks fine. Palmer is an iffy start against that vaunted Baltimore Defense, but if I'm starting two WRs, you may as well give their QB a shot as well. If you got fed up with Palmer earlier in the year, and were able to track down a capable back up, you may want to give him a look as well. Cincy doesn't really have a tight end to speak of, so I won't. Chris Henry doesn't get a nod this week, because of the Baltimore defense, not from any lack of his involvement in the Bengal offense. Look at your roster if your options warrant taking a chance on him. On a Sunday game, you could flip a coin on him, with the Thursday night game, I'd leave him out and take the chance on someone else.

Sunday Games: (Note: due to the weather system going through the Michigan area this weekend, I'm getting my butt kicked by migraines. I'm trying to write through it, but concentration is an issue. The picks are solid, I just don't have the focus today (Saturday) to write up the explanations. Hopefully they will all be in before you need to set your lineups on Sunday morning. I apologize to those that may be waiting for the explanations.)

Arz @ StL
Start 'Em Arz:
M. Leinart, QB
L. Fitzgerald, WR
A. Boldin, WR

Sit 'Em Arz:
E. James, RB
L. Pope, TE

This week the Cardinals get the Rams. One of the worst fantasy rush defenses in the league. The Rams give up, on average, 150 rushing yards and a TD a game. So you may be asking why do I have James on the Bench? Easy. I don't trust him, and his line. I don't think he's going to get to 100 yards. The Cards are a pass first team with Leinart and his boys, Fitzgerald and Boldin. The Rams actually have a decent pass defense, and may stimey the Cardinal passing game. Denny Green would be smart to run run run all day, however, I just don't think their line can get the job done. It'll be an interesting day indeed. If you are one of those that took James in the first round, kept him, and have been itching to use him, go ahead this week, this will be the last time all year it will be a decent play.

Start 'Em StL:
T. Holt, WR
S. Jackson, RB
I. Bruce, WR
M. Bulger, QB

Sit 'Em StL:
None

This week I feel that the Rams will snap out of their funk. The Rams have been decent on offense the last few weeks. Steven Jackson has been great and unbenchable the last few weeks. He has been catching plenty of balls out of the backfield, helping in the passing game. The biggest news was that Marc Bulger was suffering from bruised ribs the last few ribs, which was probably the reason his stats were suffering. Enter the Cardinals the defense, the cure for what ails ya. The Cardinals defense is brutal. It allowed Brad Freaking Johnson to throw 3 tds last week, and pretend he was a real quarterback. Steven Jackson should have a field day, Torry Holt should snap out of his funk and put up numbers the resemble the top 5 WR that he is, and even Issac Bruce should be serviceable. Start your top flight Rams with confidence this week.

Atl @ Was
Start 'Em Atl:
M. Vick, QB
W. Dunn, RB
A. Crumpler, TE

Sit 'Em Atl:
All Falcons WRs
J. Norwood, RB

Contrary to popular belief, (my belief included), is that Michael Vick is a serviceable fantasy football quarterback. He doesn't pass worth two beans in a pot, but he runs better than most of the top fantasy runners, including a running back on his team that everyone loves, named Warrick Dunn. Last week he put up 160 yards on the ground, which in most leagues is worth 4 passing tds. This week, the Redskins aren't that great of a defense, and Vick alone can probably rip them up. Win the game? Fantasy players don't care about that. "Playoffs?!!? Who said anything about Playoffs?!? I just hope we can win a game!" - Jim Mora. While Mora also said that Vick may be a 'Coach Killer', on a fantasy team, he may be able to carry your team to the playoffs. Helping Vick carry your team to the playoffs this week will be Warrick Dunn, and Alge Crumpler. Dunn is the only legitimate running back on this team. Norwood doesn't get the carries to warrant fantasy consideration. While he may tear one off to make you say 'Why didn't I start him!' He isn't consistent enough to trust. Crumpler is the only receiver on the Falcons team that can actually catch a Michael Vick pass, and is a weekly 'must start'. You leave the Falcon receivers on the bench, and perhaps the waiver wire, as was exhibited last week, they simply can't catch. Don't give them a chance to drop your chance at winning this week.

Start 'Em Was:
L. Betts, RB
C. Cooley, TE
S. Moss, WR

Sit 'Em Was:
J. Campbell, QB
TJ Duckett, RB
B. Lloyd, WR

Betts, good running option. Atl is weak rushing Defense.
Cooley has become Campbell's safety valve.
Moss is a play-maker that is a great play every week he's healthy.
Campbell just isn't good enough yet to warrant fantasy consideration.
Duckett and Lloyd, backups that don't need consideration.

Det @ N E
Start 'Em Det:
R. Williams, WR

Sit 'Em Det:
K. Jones, RB
J. Kitna, QB
M. Furrey, WR

Williams is the real playmaker on this team. Berrian caught good numbers against the Pats.
Jones is sore, and I wouldn't start him 100% against the Pats, Don't start him today.
Kitna has been brutal lately, In a bad weather day don't expect much from him.
Furrey, I just can't expect much from him.

Start 'Em N E:
T. Brady, QB
C. Dillion, RB
L. Maroney, RB
R. Caldwell, WR
B. Watson, TE

Sit 'Em N E:
Other WRs

Start them all, Detroit is bad on defense. It should be a Tom Brady surgical dissection.
The Patriots WRs other than Reche Caldwell are unstartable, due to the way Brady spreads it around.

Ind @ Ten
Start 'Em Ind:
P. Manning, QB
J. Addai, RB
R. Wayne, WR
M. Harrison, WR
B. Utecht, TE

Sit 'Em Ind:
D. Rhodes, RB
D. Clark, TE - OUT injury

Colts are good. Start them all.
Rhodes is out as the relevant RB in Indy, leave him on your bench.

Start 'Em Ten:
T. Henry, RB
V. Young, QB (?)

Sit 'Em Ten:
B. Scaife, TE
C. Brown, RB
L. White, RB
All Titan WRs

Tennesee is a hard team to read. If you can avoid them, I would.
Henry should have a good game against a bad rushing defense in the Colts. But he has a healthy track record of going off against great defenses, and disappearing against soft defenses. I'd just stay away from all Titans this week.

KC @ Cle
Start 'Em KC:
L. Johnson, RBeast
T. Green, QB
T. Gonzalez, TE
S. Parker, WR

Sit 'Em KC:
E. Kennison, WR
M. Bennett, RB
J. Dunn, TE

This should be a blow out.
You know to start Johnson every week.
Green should be back to form, and looking to take advantage of a defense that Carson Palmer ripped up last week.
Gonzo is healthy enough this week, and will reclaim his spot as the teams leading receiver.
Parker is, again, a sneaky play. He is the receiver that can catch on this team.

Start 'Em Cle:
K. Winslow, TE

Sit 'Em Cle:
B. Edwards, WR
C. Frye, QB
R. Droughns, RB
J. Wright, RB
D. Northcutt, WR

K. Winslow is a must start TE every week.
B. Edwards is usually a good start. Reports are that he may be punished in this game for his tirade against Charlie Frye last week. Even if the Coach doesn't punish him, Frye might. I'd leave him on the bench this week if you can, and see how this shakes out.
The rest of the team is worthless.
Droughns is rumored to be benched this week in favor of J. Wright. They are fed up with Ruebens bad stats in his tenure, and they want to get a look at their rookies. Leave your Brown backs on the bench until a clear cut leader emerges.

Min @ Chi
Start 'Em Min:
C. Taylor, RB

Sit 'Em Min:
B. Johnson, QB
M. Robinson, WR
J. Wiggins, TE
T. Taylor, WR
T. Williamson, WR

If I were a lazier man I would copy and past last weeks explanation from New England explanation, and use it this week. However I'm not that lazy. The sad thing is, the game plan doesn't change much. Chester Taylor is still the focal point of the Vikings offense. The Bears can still be beaten with the run, and Brad Johnson isn't going to beat anyone beside the Cardinals through the air. You start Chester Taylor, and sit the Vikings passing game this week. If they do something this week against the Bears, then you can use them next week, and for the rest of your season into the fantasy playoffs.

Start 'Em Chi:
T. Jones, RB (?)
B. Berrian, WR

Sit 'Em Chi:
R. Grossman, QB
M. Muhammad, WR
D. Clark, TE
C. Benson, RB

In this game, the Bears are looking at square in the eye of the number one rushing defense in the league. Thomas Jones doesn't make a great start this week, but the Bears could be a little more stubborn than most in the run game. This week Pat Williams may be limited which helps his possibilities, if you have a better option go with it. Cedric Benson is a bench. He opened his big yap again in the Chicago media and didn't lend himself well to his team. Chances are he'll not see much of the field this week, due to his comments. Bernard Berrian is the only play in the passing game from the Bears this week. The Vikings have shown they are brutal against the pass, however, Grossman has shown as of late that he isn't much better. Berrian is an option because he is the deep threat. The weather in Chicago Sunday is expected to be terrible, so expect a low scoring game. Bench your Bears if you got them, especially if you have better options.

NYJ @ GB
Start 'Em NYJ:
L. Coles, WR
J. Cotcherty, WR
C. Pennington, QB
L. Washington, RB
C. Baker, TE

Sit 'Em NYJ:
K. Barlow, RB

Green Bay is the worst pass defense in the league.
Start all of your Jets passing attackers with confidence.
The running back situation is a mess with Houston returning from injury. Leon Washington should be the clear cut starter, and should put up good numbers, but don't be surprised if this falls through.
Barlow tends to be the Goal line back, mucking things up further.

Start 'Em GB:
B. Favre, QB
D. Driver, WR
G. Jennings, WR
A. Green, RB

Sit 'Em GB:
N. Herron, RB
B. Franks, TE

The Jets aren't very good in pass defense either, and Number 4 is Number 4.
Jennings' ankle has healed. Driver and Jennings give Favre good down field targets to sling to.
A. Green makes a good play, as the Jets defense isn't too special, especially if the weather in the Meadowlands is a factor.
B. Franks has been reduced to a blocking TE and shouldn't be on rosters.

SD @ Buf

L. Tomlinson, RBeast
P. Rivers, QB
A. Gates, TE

Sit 'Em SD:
E. Parker, WR
K. McCardell, WR

The Commwealth of The Land update

I'm going to take a few minutes off topic to opine about a league that I have been running for the last 3 years. It has been one of the most competitive leagues I have played in year in year out. We have it as a 'Keeper League' that we keep up to three players each year, with one extra 'Franchise Player'. Our league is a 12 team league that starts 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs 1 TE, with 1 RB, WR, or TE, 1K, 1 team Defense/Special Team unit, for a total of 9 players. Our scoring system is set up to be a rather high scoring league.

In the three years we have been playing this league he have always had three people fighting for one or two playoff spots at end of year. The first year we had three teams in one division fighting for the division leader and the wild card spot, with the odd man out, enjoying nothing but a bad spot in the draft. It just proves that in a good league, every game matters, and you can't afford to throw games away with bad decisions if you want to make the playoffs. Last year two teams from that same division were fighting for the lead and the loser had to compete with another team from another division for the wild card. These playoff spots weren't decided until the last game of the year was completed. A highly competitive league indeed.

Wild Iguanas, Team in a Box, Just Giver, are in line for Wild card, with the Wild Iguanas and Just Giver renewing their rivalry for a third year in a row for the division winner. This year, however, there is no guarantee that the loser of this battle will be given the consolation prize of the wild card. This is the second year in a row that the final week meeting between Wild Iguanas and Just Giver will decide the division winner.

Team in a Box has an outside shot to win the division, and would screw up the playoff scenario a ton. First off, they need to win their last two games. The second piece of this puzzle is that the Blessed Cheetos, home of the dominate LaDanian Tomlinson, would have to tank the last two games on the year. Blessed Cheetos has been the most dominate team in the league this year, having a 10-2 record this year after 12 weeks. If this situation played out, the tiebreakers would give the division winner to Team in a Box, (division record), and the wild card would most likely be Blessed Cheetos, as the Cheetos have the head to head wins over both the Wild Iguanas and Just Giver. One win from the Blessed Cheetos clinches the division. One loss from Team in a Box, almost mathematically eliminates them. If Wild Iguanas and Just Giver, happen to lose in Week 13, it helps keep Team in a Box's chances alive even with a loss. While a loss from either one of them, mangles their own division.

Vicious Bastards has ended the SoCal Bears chance at three-peat domination of the Commonwealth clinching their division with a week 12 win over those same SoCal Bears, mathematically eliminating them. Vicious will have two gear up games to finish up the season, and then get the second best record division winner in week 15 for his playoff match up.

SoCal Bears had been building a dynasty of the league, winning the championship in the first two years of its existence. Da Bears had been riding a solid core of Peyton Manning and Shaun Alexander those years, but this year when Shaun went down, so did the Bears chances of a three-peat. I'd like to personally congratulate him on his early success in the league, and wish him luck next year. I'd also like to wish the best of luck to the rest of the league members that aren't mentioned here, as their seasons didn't go the best for them this year. I thank you all for making it a great year and look forward to next season. I'd also like to thank the new members to our league this year, filling in in a pinch. I hope you had fun, and that even though it was a rough start, you enjoyed it, and will be back next year to compete.

Marvin, I Love You!

While I may the only one who reads this that knows of, or has heard the song referenced by the title, it is a novelty song about a lonely robot long forgotten. The robot is floating through existence cleaning out his data banks when he discovers a message he had previously received that was from a hot sounding voice, "Marvin, I love you."

Fantasy football owners seem to remember a time so very long ago when Peyton Manning would sing this to his favorite receiver, "Marvin, I love you!". Manning would then proceed to throw touchdown after touchdown to his favorite receiver, while fantasy owners rejoiced in this pairing. However, after Sunday night's one catch, 8 yard, zero fantasy point performance, fantasy owners are wondering if there is trouble in happy land. Even Marvin the lonely android gets more love than Harrison did on Sunday Night.

Another strike against Marvelous Harrison that could lead to his demise in the world of fantasy football, is the emergence of Joseph Addai. Sunday Night against the Eagles, Joseph had his coming out party. He carried the ball over 20 times for 171 yards and 4 touchdowns. The previous success of the receivers in Indy was predicated on the fact that the Colts had trouble running in the red zone, so Peyton would have to have to throw for scores. If Addai is going to make a habit out of multiple touchdown games, this spells disaster for the end of Marvin's career, as he fades off in to obscurity.

Marvin isn't getting any younger either. Reggie Wayne is clearly the future of the Colts receiving core. Wayne is signed to a long term contract, and is clearly being pressed into more action as the number one receiver on the team. Peyton has gone on record as saying he would like to keep both receivers happy, but that isn't happening. Marvin has fallen way behind in the statistical departments that are relevant to fantasy players. Perhaps this drop off in stats in as indication that Marv is starting to lose a step or two, and isn't as explosive as he used to be. If he is able to be covered better, then there is no way you can expect those gargantuan numbers that you are used to seeing from the Marvelous one.

Has Marvin Harrison fallen off the perches off the 'Unbenchables'? I'm not going to call it after this game, but one more stinker, and I'm going to have to start looking at his match-ups and thinking about sitting the venerable one down every once in a while. It pains me to say it, but I would hate to see Marvin fall from the ranks of the rock solid, every week start, wide receiver. There are so very few of those these days.

Week 12 Sunday Observations.

Breathing is overrated- In a surprise move Willis McGahee started today's game vs. Jacksonville with 3 cracked ribs. So far on the day he has 5 carries for 43 yards and two touchdowns. Who knew it was cracked ribs that helped you run against the Jags.

Deverreeeeey, Devereeerahhhh- Devery Henderson, starting in place of the injured Marques Colston, took a Drew Brees pass 76 yards for a TD on the opening Saints drive of the day. Unfortunately, that catch is the only one he has on the day, with 2 minutes to play in the first half.

Action Jackson - Steven Jackson, The running back in St. Louis who is most under the microscope today, due to the loss of Orlando Pace. Jackson has answered his critics with 101 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Steven is also leading his team in receiving with 3 catches for 26 yards. While this is good news for Jackson, it also means that Holt is slacking in the receiving department.

Braylon Who?- Although it was reported that Braylon Edwards was supposedly playing today, he hasn't been found on the field. Dennis Northcutt has been picking up Edwards slack hauling in 3 receptions for 61 yards.

Bulger Dinged - In the last series of the half in the StL/SF game, Marc Bulger was injured, and Gus Frerotte came in to finish off the half. It will be interesting to see if Bulger comes back to finish the game, or if he will miss significant time.

Surprise of the week- Comes to us from Carolina vs. Washington. The 6-3 score at the half, where it looks like the Washington offense is playing brutally, with 3 players putting the ball on the turf, and recovering it. The main surprise is that the Washington Defense is showing up and playing effectively. They are bottling up Steve Smith, holding him to 10 yards on 2 catches and have intercepted Jake Delhomme once in the game. It will be interesting to see what adjustments these two teams make at the half.

That's it for now. Please enjoy the second half of today's afternoon action!

New Surprise of the Week - Brad Johnson is pretending he's a real quarterback today. Not since dinosaurs roamed the earth has Brad Johnson thrown 3 tds in one game. The only problem is non of them are going to players you would start, excepting maybe Marcus Robinson. The other two have gone to 4th WR Billy McMullen, and 3rd TE Jeff Dugan. Don't get too excited about Brad's performance this week, as next week he lines up against the Chicago Bears, in the Windy City.

Tomlinson getting tuckered? - This week LT ONLY had 109 yards rushing, and two touchdowns. Well, and then he threw one to Antonio Gates. Apparently he heard my call to get Gates more involved in the offense, since Phillip Rivers was having some trouble. Still, 3 TDs on the day for LT is a good day for any other back in the league, just for him we have to start to wondering if that maybe things are finally catching up to him.

Week 12 Sunday Morning news and notes

Check back here often as this be updated as often as I find news and notes about injuries and who's starting who's not, etc.

Hines Ward, WR - Pit
Hines Ward will play today - However, he doesn't make the greatest play against a stout Baltimore defense.

Marques Colston, WR - NO
Colston has been Ruled OUT for today's game against the Falcons. Get him out of your line up as soon as possible. Look for Devery Henderson, and Joe Horn to pick up slack, and to pick Falcons clean.

DeAngelo Williams, RB - Car
DeAngelo will get the first start of his career against Washington this week. DeShaun Foster has also been deactivated today. Look for Williams to get the majority of the carries, and be spelled by Nick Goings.

Santana Moss, WR - Wash
Santana Moss will start against the Panthers today. This should help Jason Campbell's slim chances against a swarming Carolina defensive line.

Willis McGahee, RB - Buf
Willis is reported to start in Buffalo, making a sticky situation worse. Neither he or Anthony Thomas made a great play this week against a Jacksonville defense that allowed Tiki Barber only 27 yards on Monday night.

TJ Championship, WR - Cin
TJ will play today, after dealing with a concussion and a rib injury. While he should put up decent numbers against a battered Cleveland defense, I don't foresee fantastic numbers for Whosyourmama. Johnson has been the focal point of the passing game, and Henry will split TJs time. If you have a better option this week, don't go out of your way to put Houshyerwhatshamah into your lineup this week.

That's it for morning news and notes! Good luck this weekend!
Perhaps there will be more news-breakers for the afternoon games this week.
